The Yankees got off to a good start in their three game series against the Boston Red Sox, hitting three home runs and getting the start from Vidal Nuno they desperately needed. Tonight, they’re going to send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound and he will go for his 12th win of the season.
Tanaka’s last start didn’t go as planned: he gave up three runs, which isn’t bad to his standards, but the Yankees offense just wasn’t there. Unfortunately, Tanaka ended up losing the game. This time, Tanaka is on six days rest and he’s ready to take on the struggling Boston Red Sox lineup. Not only that, but Tanaka will be under the bright lights of Yankee Stadium, and his start will be on National television–on FOX
Yesterday’s Yankees lineup showed a lot of promise: Kelly Johnson and Brett Gardner hit back-to-back jacks and Brian McCann showed the power the Yankees had signed up for when they gave him that lucrative contract over the winter. It’s no secret the Yankees need their power guys to produce, and it’s no secret the Yankees have to find a way to take this series against the Red Sox, but the bright side so far is the Yankees are 6-2 against the Red Sox this season, tying the number of wins they had all last year against the defending World Series champions. Last year the Red Sox owned the Yankees. It’s a little nice to have the roles reversed this time around.
