It’s arguably one of baseball’s greatest rivalries: The Boston Red Sox coming under the bright lights of New York to take on the New York Yankees in a three game showdown. Now, the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry has lost it’s shine mainly because both the Yanks and Red Sox haven’t played well at the same time in recent years. This year, the Yankees have been able to beat the Red Sox and last year, the Red Sox were able to beat the Yankees. The AL East was more fun when both the Yankees and Red Sox were fighting each other for first place–now, it’s kind of just another AL East series that the Yankees have to take advantage of.
This series should be interesting because the Boston Red Sox are going to face Masahiro Tanaka, which will be a tough task. But, the Yankees are also sending Vidal Nuno and Chase Whitley to the mound, both who sorely need a good outing. Nuno is about a bad start removed from having Yankees fans start a riot to get him out of the rotation and Whitley just needs to bounce back after giving up eight runs against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees need to take this series against the Sox, because for some reason the Yankees can’t beat the Rays.
The offense had been good for the Yankees in Wednesday’s game and they showed that they were able to come down six runs to tie a game, but they need to continue this trend if they want to climb up in the AL East standings.
