After a horrible home stand where the Yankees were only able to win two games, the team will pack their bags and head to Kansas City where they will begin a four game series against the Royals starting Friday night as they hope to get back on the right track.
The Yankees are only one game above .500 as they enter this series and unfortunately, there’s no Masahiro Tanaka against the Royals. Chase Whitley, David Phelps, Hiroki Kuroda and Vidal Nuno will oppose Jeremy Guthrie, Danny Duffy, James Shields and Jason Vargas. This series will also be interesting because Carlos Beltran will return to Kansas City, where he played from 1998-2004. It leaves us to wonder how Beltran will be received by the Royals fans in a Yankees uniform.
The Yankees need to get the offense on a roll and they need to score more than two runs a game. It’s almost impossible to win only scoring two runs a game unless you have Tanaka on the mound. The Yankees need to find their power stroke and they need to gain momentum. They’re going into this series after winning the final game against the Athletics, and it’s important they continue their roll.
I’ll have the matchup post later in the afternoon, but the Yankees need to consider winning games that aren’t started by Tanaka. It would help them in their quest to win the AL East.
