The Yankees had a daunting task of facing Felix Hernandez, but they were unable to do anything against him as they fell 10-2 to the Mariners at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York.

The Yankees scored their two runs in the fourth inning when Brian McCann singled, Yangervis Solarte doubled and Ichiro Suzuki hit a two-run infield single to bring both runners home. The Yankees offense has been lethargic this home stand and it continued tonight when the Yankees were unable to get anything going against Hernandez and the Mariners bullpen.

David Phelps went six innings for the Yankees and he was charged with six runs on six hits while striking out four. Matt Thornton pitched a scoreless inning but Alfredo Aceves put the Yankees farther out of reach, giving up four runs on five hits and two home runs in two innings of work.
