The Yankees have had a decent road-trip so far: they got off to a sluggish start by only taking one of the three games against the Kansas City Royals, but they swept the series against the Seattle Mariners and they split the first two games against the Oakland Athletics. 5-3 on the road trip isn’t bad…but 6-3 is better, and the Yankees plan on sending Vidal Nuno to the mound in the final game of this three game series.
Nuno had a no decision in his last start, going 5.2 innings while giving up one run on four hits and striking out two against the Seattle Mariners. The Yankees would later go on to win the game. Nuno was one of the replacements in the Yankees rotation and he’s done a decent job for the most part, keeping the Yankees afloat while trying to prove to Joe Girardi that he’s capable of being a starter. Nuno needs to give the Yankees length in this start, and he needs to locate his pitches against the hot hitting Oakland Athletics.
The Yankees offense could also use a bounce back game, and they hope to have Mark Teixeira in the lineup who was battling a slight back spasm before yesterday’s contest. The Yankees would like to end this road trip on a good note, just to build some momentum as they go into the series against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium.
