Brett Gardner out with mild abdominal strain

While Masahiro Tanaka was the main source of news today, there was another injury in the Yankees clubhouse.

Brett Gardner wasn’t in the starting lineup this evening due to a mild abdominal strain. He said he felt it during last night’s game and was afraid it was a hernia, although he never had a hernia before. He was checked out after the game and received semi-good news.

“Got checked out by the doctor after the game,” Gardner said. “He seemed to think that it’s definitely not a hernia. Ruled that out and said it might be like a very light maybe muscle strain or aggravation.”

Gardner said he feels much better today and could have played, but Joe Girardi thought it would have been better if Gardner got a full day off. Both Girardi and Gardner opened the possibility of Gardner playing tomorrow.
