Ellsbury’s home run leads Yankees to 4-3 win over Reds

In their first game back from the All-Star Break, the Yankees immediately got back to work with their offense and defense,  subsequently beating the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

The Yankees were able to score in the bottom of the first inning on a Brian McCann RBI double, plating Brett Gardner. In the third inning, Carlos Beltran hit an RBI single scoring Derek Jeter and in the fifth inning, Jacoby Ellsbury connected for this seventh home run of the year, a two-run shot going over the right field wall.

David Phelps has been extremely good lately and he continued that trend going 6.1 innings while giving up three runs on six hits and striking out seven. Dellin Betances came on to retire five batters, striking out three while David Robertson came in and got his 24th save, pitching a 1, 2, 3 9th inning.

What’s Next?

Brandon McCarthy will make his Yankee Stadium debut as he attempts to give the Yankees a series win while Alfredo Simon will oppose him and take the mound for the Reds. First pitch will be at 1:05 p.m. and the game will air on the YES Network,
