Mark Teixeira took a live round of batting practice and is officially in tonight’s lineup. Apparently, the final test for Teixeira was pinch-hitting in last night’s 4-2 loss to the Texas Rangers. All was good and even though it took Teixeira a little more than a week to return, he’s ready to play and take his rightful place at first base.
“A week’s not bad,” he said. “If you go two weeks, have a DL stint and go two weeks-plus, that’s when you lose your timing a little bit. Hopefully it won’t be too much of an adjustment.”
Teixeira’s at-bat last night was extremely encouraging. He was able to hit a single before being lifted for Brendan Ryan on the basepaths.
“I took one swing and it felt good,” he said. “Very reassuring. I wasn’t expecting anything negative, but at the same time you want to get out there and get it done.”
The Yankees need Teixeira in their lineup. Having Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter isn’t enough to keep the Yankees afloat and the Yankees could surely use Teixeira’s power bat in the middle of the order.
