Masahiro Tanaka flies back to New York for MRI on arm

Uh-oh. Looks like another blow to the Yankees rotation.

The New York Post reported Masahiro Tanaka is currently flying back to New York to have an MRI on his right arm. This just comes one day after Tanaka had his worst start of the season, giving up five runs in 6.2 innings.

Tanaka, who was just announced as an American League All-Star on Sunday, has a season best 12 wins and a 2.51 ERA in 18 starts.

UPDATED: The Yankees have put Masahiro Tanaka on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation. The Yankees have called up Zoilo Almonte as the corresponding move.

The Boston fans that I know will love this…they have to root for something this year…got to hope Tanaka is ok…

He is done for this year. wonderful.

Remember one article about Tanaka's dipping velocity? Uh no!

    • It's hard to say if this is related at all. It was one start and it was a very slight drop (it's hardly noticeable going back and looking at the chart now) in velocity anyhow. He's made 3 starts since where his velocity was absolutely fine. Besides, drops in velocity are more correlated with shoulder problems than elbow problems.

So Whitley is back in the rotation?

  5. hotdog says:

this is crazy…on the DL now with an elbow strain…this sucks! i just hope they don't go after Cliff Lee…

  6. hotdog says:

Does anyone know if Tanaka got the MRI and then was diagnosed with the elbow strain or has he yet to get the MRI?
