Morning Notes and Links: Long, Rodriguez, Wheeler

Alex Rodriguez 12

I know I usually start off every morning writing a small recap before tonight’s game, but I wanted to put up some links that I didn’t get a chance to cover yesterday since there was other news coming out of the organization (CC Sabathia‘s rehab start).

— Kevin Long spoke to the media following yesterday’s loss and addressed the issue of the slumping Yankees offense. I believe he’s well aware that the Yankees are in a bad place right now as well as one game under .500.

“You’re obviously not scoring runs and you’re going to put some pressure on yourself. You’re going to try to do a little bit more. The guys are certainly well aware of what’s going on and they’re putting forth as much effort as they can. Just sometimes things don’t go the way you want them or you planned them.”

You can click the link above if you want to read the entire Kevin Long interview. It was actually an interesting read.

— So apparently the Alex Rodriguez saga never ends, even when Rodriguez is off the field. According to USA Today, a person with knowledge told them Major League Baseball allowed Rodriguez to take steroids with knowledge of exemption during the 2007 season. The exemption was revealed in a transcript of the new book Blood Sport: Alex Rodriguez, Biogenesis and the Quest to End Baseball’s Steroid Era while excerpts were printed by Sports Illustrated. The person did not give their identity due to them speaking without the permission of Rodriguez, Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association.

— The Yankees are reportedly calling up Zelous Wheeler from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. A corresponding move is slated to happen before tonight’s game.
