Yankees designate Alfonso Soriano for assignment

As if the news of Vidal Nuno being traded to the Diamondbacks wasn’t enough, the Yankees have made another move.

The New York Yankees have announced that Alfonso Soriano has been designated for assignment. The move clears the 25-man and the 40-man spot for Bruce Billings, who was called up last night from Scranton Wilkes-Barre. Joe Girardi said that Billings isn’t going to start for the Yankees tomorrow and never thought about who would start, considering he thought Nuno was going to take the mound tomorrow.

Girardi seemed absolutely solemn during the pregame press conference (I’ll have more notes on that in a bit) about letting Soriano go, stating that it’s hard to tell a player they’ve been designated for assignment. He applauded Soriano’s professionalism, but he stated the move was made because of Soriano’s offensive woes.

If Girardi still not plans to start Billings tomorrow then optioning Huff or Whitley to AAA for Greene.

Or is there another trade for a veteran SP coming up?

Right! From the most home runs in all of baseball since arriving from the Cubs to being cut for the effing for a pitcher with an era north of 5.00. All in 3 months.

    Riiiiiighhht.

And still folks think Brian Cashman deserves a job? This lugnit redefines moron…

  3. RossMosschito says:

And before anyone points to his current 3 months stats – clearly he's been off. Way off.

But it's not like he's Yangervis Solarte. His career (heck his last year) says he can still do it.

SO HELP HIM GET IT FIXED #what exactly does Kevin Long do again besides earning a paycheck??!?!?

Something needed to be done. Let's be positive about this and back our boys 150 percent following the a.s. Break…. All the confidence in the world in my bombers….bring it A.L. East!!!!!!!

Greene will make a first start debut tomorrow. Oo-Rah!!!

  6. Balt Yank says:

Soriano was a fun player to watch when with the Yankees, young and last year. However, time to get younger and better. Soon, a triple a outfielder should be called up to help Ichiro.

How about putting Girardi and Rothchild in the Minors. Every pitcher under those two losers got better when they left the Yankees. All Girardi cares about is the homerun, and rothchild is the walking dead.

Soriano, had some great offensive games as a Yankee , hope people don't forget that!
