Yankees to scout Cuban defector Rusney Castillo

Yankee Stadium 2

When Rusney Castillo takes the field at Alex Rodriguez Stadium on Saturday Morning, Major League Baseball will be there to scout him and that includes the New York Yankees.

According to the New York Post, Castillo, 27, has been cleared by Major League Baseball to sign with a ball club and many teams have show interest in the outfielder. Castillo has been compared to Shane Victorino, Leonys Martin and Dayan Viciedo, the latter two who are also Cuban defectors.

“He reminds me of Viciedo, not with the power, but with the way he plays and he has very good speed,’’ a talent evaluator said of Castillo, a 5-foot-9, right-handed hitter. “He is not [Yasiel] Puig. Some teams think he is a fourth outfielder but others believe he can be more.’’

Castillo is represented by Roc Nation Sports, an agency that has superstars Robinson Cano and CC Sabathia on their roster.

Enriquez: Please understand that neither Cano nor Sabathia are superstars. Pleasee make sure that is Duly Noted. Cano is a star but not a superstar even though those idiots in Seattle are paying him like one. Sabathia has been a star for a long time but never a superstar. For the last two years he has not even been a star.
