The Yankees came into this series hoping to extend their win streak to six games. However, Brandon McCarthy had a rocky start and the Yankees fell to the Tigers 5-2 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan.

The Yankeees offense was a one man show: two home runs from the bat of Jacoby Ellsbury. Ellsbury connected with his 12th home run in the fifth and with his 13th home run in the eighth.

Brandon McCarthy hit a bump in the road, going 6.1 innings while giving up five runs on nine and striking out five. Esmil Rogers came on to relieve McCarthy and pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball.
