The Yankees and Red Sox had a wild one, but they were able to come away with the victory as they beat their Boston rivals 8-7 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
After the Yankees were down 3-0 in the second, they came back with three runs on a Stephen Drew force out and a two-run double by Brett Gardner. In the fourth inning, Drew hit an RBI double, scoring Brian McCann. The Yankees scored two more runs in the fifth inning on a Chase Headley double and a RBI single by Drew and Brett Gardner delivered the final blow for the Yankees in the sixth, hitting his 15th home run of the season into the right field seats.
David Phelps started the game but he gave up five runs on six hits before being lifted due to injury after the second inning. Chase Whitley relieved Phelps, giving up two runs on two hits in two innings. The newest Yankee Esmil Rogers was the turning point of the game, delivering three scoreless innings, Dellin Betances pitched a scoreless eighth and David Robertson notched his 29th save of the season, but it wasn’t easy considering Dustin Pedroia was 10-feet shy of hitting a game tying home run.
— Brandon McCarthy will take the ball for the Yankees as the Detroit Tigers come to town for four games.
