Just yesterday it seemed Ellsbury’s ankle would keep him out of the lineup for a while. However, when he showed up to batting practice this morning, he wasn’t limping and he was trying every angle to get himself into the starting lineup for the series finale against the Blue Jays and that started with him taking batting practice.
Ellsbury took batting practice (by the way, he hit two batting practice home runs) and he did light jogging in the outfield before he deemed himself ready to play.
Before the game, Girardi wasn’t convinced Ellsbury would play today and for that reason he kept Ellsbury out of the lineup. He also wasn’t sure if Ellsbury was available to pinch hit. Right after batting practice, Ellsbury went to make a push by going to Girardi in order to talk his way into the lineup. Zelous Wheeler also had a surprising batting practice, so Girardi might not be in a hurry to change the lineup right before first pitch.
