Michael Pineda is slated to pitch on Friday evening for the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders, but could it be possible that we see Pineda in a Yankees uniform pitching in an actual Yankees game next week during the road trip?
“He’s probably available to go somewhere between 75 and 80 (pitches), and then we see where we’re at,” Girardi said. “I said we wanted to get him to 90, but with the circumstances that we’re in, you never know.”
Bryan Hoch of Yankees.com believes Pineda could pitch on Wednesday, August 13th while the Yankees are in Baltimore and while Joe Girardi won’t commit to that, it seems to become more of a possibility. But Friday for the Yankees is not going to happen, Joe Girardi already said so.
— The Yankees used seven pitchers last night and that includes Dellin Betances. Joe Girardi said Betances is not a pitcher for the Yankees tonight but David Robertson is available. He and Adam Warren both weren’t used in last night’s loss and the rest of the bullpen is ready to go for tonight’s game.
“I think we have enough,” he said. “There were some guys who had the day off yesterday.”
— So, who will start for the Yankees on Friday? It could eventually come down to Esmil Rogers, who has been impressive out of the Yankees bullpen so far, and Chase Whitley, who originally was a starter for the Yankees earlier this season. Girardi said it all depends on what happens in the next two days and how often Rogers and Whitley are used until Friday.
“We’re just going to have to wait and see what happens in the next couple days,” he said. “(Rogers) didn’t (throw a lot of pitches), and some people might consider that a side. I don’t know. We’ll just have to see how he feels.”
— Mark Teixeira released a new episode of Foul Territory, and his newest guest was Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner. I’ll have the episode up on the site later, but it was by far one of my favorites. Apparently they don’t sell Gardner’s jersey in the team store and he doesn’t know what a mix tape is. Good stuff…really good stuff.
