Yankees blanked by Rays 5-0

Same struggles, different day.

The Yankees offense has been lethargic the past two weeks and it continued tonight, wasting a good start from Brandon McCarthy as they fell 5-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida.

Brandon McCarthy went 6.1 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out seven. Esmil Rogers relieved McCarthy, pitching 1.2 innings and giving up one run.

The Yankees were shutout for the first time since August 9th against Corey Kluber and the Cleveland Indians at Yankee Stadium. This was their fifth shutout loss of the season.

What’s Next

— It doesn’t matter how good Shane Greene pitches tomorrow, the Yankees offense has to pick up the starting pitching. If the Yankees want to have a chance at defeating the Rays, they’re going to have to face Drew Smyly, who was a part of the David Price trade on July 31st. First pitch is at 4:10 p.m. and the game will air on the YES Network.
