Hot Stove Rumor: Brandon McCarthy wants four-years, $48 Million

With the Yankees letting David Robertson go to the Chicago White Sox, they have money to spare on starting pitching and third base. With that in mind, will the Yankees use that money to invest in Brandon McCarthy?

According to George A. King of the New York Post, Brandon McCarthy is reportedly seeking a four-year, $48 Million deal in the free agent market. The Yankees paid four-years, $36 Million for reliever Andrew Miller, so you’d think the Yankees would consider such a deal for McCarthy since he is a starting pitcher.

McCarthy pitched to a 2.89 ERA in 14 starts for the Yankees in 2014.

I read that the Yankees were reluctant to go past two years because of the injury risk, but four years $48 is reasonable enough to be worth the risk, especially with the upside he showed last year.

Thanks for the memories. If the yanks are letting all these guys walk they better get sherzer

  3. hotdog says:

I doubt the Yankees need to pay that price but they should aggressively go after McCarthy…then if they add Scherzer, they'll have a formidable rotation…

Brandon McCarthy has a career record of 52Wins and 65 Losses. His career ERA is 4.09! If I was the Yanks I wouldn't even sign him! He is know better than Phelps or Warren and who knows about the arms in minors! I do however hope the yanks can acquire a front-end guy, that is something they don't have in minors!

we got a small sample size with McCarthy in 2014 but he looked really good…his win/loss record is a little skewed having pitched for a lot of weak teams…he's got a lifetime era of 4.09 which isn't bad…he's not an ace and won't cost an arm and a leg…on a rare occasion a ballplayer comes to New York and exceeds expectations…i think McCarthy could be that guy…it's a risk but it's not a $175M risk…

If they do feel the need to sign more arm's I would prefer they try to acquire a Lefty for the rotation1 I won't be disappointed if they sign McCarthy I just feel they can do better!

I would rather take Edinson Volquez for 2 years…
