Throwback: Andy Pettitte gets the win in 1996 snowy home opener

The weather outside is frightful–because there’s a blizzard in New York City. So I figured it was the perfect time to post a video of it snowing during a baseball game.

Everyone remembers the 1996 home opener against the Kansas City Royals when Andy Pettitte was on the mound and the Yankees won, but this game was a Yankees Classic in it’s own right because it snowed…in April! While it looked like the game was going to be postponed at some point, the Yankees and Royals continued through the freezing temperatures and got the game in.

Well if there was anything the Yankees proved during their home opener, it was the cold never bothered them anyway.
