Surprise! Red Sox sign Yoan Moncada 6

After the Yankees held three private workouts for INF Yoan Moncada, the Boston Red Sox swept in and gave Moncada a contract offer he just couldn’t refuse.

The Red Sox and Moncada agreed to a deal in the $30 Million range, beating out the Yankees who were just showing interest. The Yankees held two private workouts for Moncada over the past week, which would have led fans to assume the team was interested. Instead, it seems Moncada was just another player the Yankees let get away.

not so much of a surprise Delia…the Red Sox are well managed, want to build playoff bound teams and are future oriented in that regard…they've made some smart moves over the past few years and have a team that is positioned now and in the future…their focus on their farm system has supplied them with great candidates and trade-able assets…my guess is that they trade for Hamels and have a viable top dog…what the Yankees need to do is to eat some crow and do the same…

I know it wasn't really a surprise, but after the Yankees had three private workouts with Moncada, you would think they would offer him a ton of money. It seemed Yankees were one of the favorites, then for the Red Sox to swoop in and do what they did, it was a surprise. 🙂

How exactly is this a surprise? Anyone who's been paying attention knows that hal wasnt willing to lay out the money. as ive been saying this whole winter, if he wasnt willing to spend on a pitcher to improve the roation this year, there was no way he'd be willing to lay out the cash it would take to get this guy who's heading right to the minors. This is humor, though, that the red sox swooped in and got him; theyve provided the true example of how to build for the now AND at the same time rebuild the farm for the future. cashman should have a notebook at hand. hal is a joke and a half and everyone knows it. maybe they should bring moncada in for a fourth workout huh?

they have pitching, sort of…what they needed was future players, prospects that were top flight…Moncada is no guarantee but how often to you get a chance at this kind of talent…Severino and Judge look like can't miss prospects but we need more…i got to wonder what the plan is with Gary Sanchez…starts out at AAA? and gets a promotion if he makes the grade…what do you do with McCann if he does and does McCann stand in his way…i thought McCann was a possible replacement for Tex someday…
