Report: Austin Romine clears waivers, outrighted to Triple-A Scranton 8

Austin RomineWell, it looks like Austin Romine is staying in the Yankees organization after all.

The Yankees have announced Romine has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. Romine was designated for assignment following Saturday’s game when the Yankees chose John Ryan Murphy as their back-up catcher. The surprising bit was no one claimed Romine and the Yankees didn’t trade him to a different team. Well, you can never have too much catching depth, that’s what I always say.

If I'm not mistaken he isn't on the 40 man roster anymore and they'll have to open a spot to call him up. He would be a minor league free agent this fall if he stays off the 40 man roster.

Surprised that nobody wanted him as their backup catcher. This is good news obviously. Can't hurt to have some insurance. Shows that he has absolutely no trade value though.

Yanks should've pulled the trigger on a trade during the spring when there seemed to be some interest in him.

Ho hum, hard to get excited about this development one way or another. The fact that he passed on by everyone tells me everything I need to know.
