Chase+Whitley+Baltimore+Orioles+v+New+York+Al-bGt8pTZ2lThe Yankees hit a slight snag in extending their lead in the AL East standings when Chase Whitley gave up five runs in a 6-2 loss against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

The Yankees scored the first of their two runs in the fifth inning on a Stephen Drew SAC Fly. The Yankees tacked on one more run in the eighth on a Carlos Beltran RBI single.

Chase Whitley started the game for the Yankees, pitching 5.2 innings, giving up five runs on six hits and striking out five. David Carpenter gave up a run in 1.1 innings of work and Chasen Shreve pitched two scoreless innings.

What’s Next?

— The Yankees attempt to take the series against the Orioles in a Sunday matinee. Michael Pineda will start for the Yankees and Bud Norris will start for the Orioles. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. and the game will air on the YES Network.

    Whit not sharp at all,the opposite of last time.Really liking the Shreve kid.Silently just getting the job done.Scoring more than six for us will be tough.Come on Big Mike

    The more I see Shreve and Carpenter, I have to tip my hat to Cashman for the trade to bring them in. I know what we gave up was a possible starter but Banuelos wasn't the same after the surgery. He may still turn into a MLB pitcher but right now we have two important pitchers in the pen and Banuelos is still in the minors.

      Chen pitched well. Yanks are in first place. They're pretty good. Whitley's been pretty good.
