On a night where the Yankees lost Chase Whitley due to an elbow injury, they also did something they hadn’t done in a while–they lost a four game series. The offense didn’t show up until the ninth inning, which sent the Yankees to a 6-1 loss against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida.
The Yankees scored their lone run in the ninth inning on a Alex Rodriguez home run.
Whitley gave up three runs on two hits in 1.2 innings before he was lifted from the game after aggravating an elbow injury. Esmil Rogers gave up two runs on five hits in 3.1 innings of work, David Carpenter pitched a scoreless inning, Chasen Shreve gave up a run in an inning of work and Branden Pinder pitched a scoreless eighth.
— The Yankees head to Kansas City where they will take on the Royals in the first of a three game set. First pitch is at 8:10 p.m. and the game will air on PIX 11.
