Jacoby Ellsbury could be close to a rehab assignment

Jacoby Ellsbury was predicted to return to the Yankees right before the All-Star break, but it could be much sooner than that. The Yankees announced before yesterday’s game that Ellsbury would work out with the team early this afternoon and it’s entirely possible Ellsbury begins a minor league rehab assignment as early as Monday. Ellsbury had been a little behind schedule and wasn’t even running the bases during the Yankees last home stand. The Yankees want Ellsbury running the bases at 100% before they take the next step.

It’s predicted Ellsbury could be back with the Yankees on Friday during the Tampa Bay Rays series considering it wouldn’t make sense to have Ellsbury play two minor league games and then fly to Los Angeles for the final game of the three game series against the Angels. However, the Yankees haven’t went into detail with their rehab schedule for Ellsbury.
