Last night we found out two Yankees have already punched their ticket to Cincinnati, Ohio to the All-Star Game while another Yankee is on the final ballot to potentially become an All-Star. Following the announcement, manager Joe Girardi spoke out about Dellin Betances and Mark Teixeira making the All-Star team and Brett Gardner being apart of the final vote.
Joe Girardi on Mark Teixeira: “When you see the type of first half he has had this season, you certainly realize how much we missed him the last two years. He’s a top-flight run producer, a force in the middle of our lineup and a Gold Glover at first base. I’m so pleased he’s being recognized with another All-Star Game selection.”
Joe Girardi on Dellin Betances: “You can certainly make the argument that Dellin has been the best reliever in all of baseball over the last two years. I certainly don’t take for granted having him at the back end of our bullpen. He’s a difference-maker and his All-Star selection is well-deserved.”
Joe Girardi on Brett Gardner: “Gardy has turned himself into a dynamic all-around player. He has also evolved into one of the true leaders in our clubhouse. He’s a tremendous outfielder and an offensive force who can affect the outcome of a game in so many ways. I know Yankees fans gravitate toward the way he plays the game, because he plays it with a great deal of grit and determination. It’s my hope that we can all rally behind him and give him the opportunity to play in his first All-Star Game. It’s hard not to root for a guy like Gardy.”
