Teixeira homers twice in 5-4 win over Athletics


Mark Teixeira will be going to Cincinnati for the All-Star Game next week. But if anyone had their doubts about Teixeira earning his spot, he certainly silenced the critics tonight by hitting two home-runs in a 5-4 win over the Oakland Athletics at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

The Yankees first scored in the bottom of the second on a two-run double by Didi Gregorius. Teixeira hit two home runs during the evening, one in the fourth and one in the sixth. Stephen Drew‘s home run in the eighth inning ended up being the difference in the ball game.

CC Sabathia gave up two runs on seven hits while striking out one in 5.1 innings of work. Bryan Mitchell retired two batters, Justin Wilson pitched a scoreless inning, Dellin Betances pitched a scoreless inning and Andrew Miller gave up two runs in his return from the disabled list.

What’s Next?

— It’s the series finale against the Athletics and the Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound with hopes of leading his teammates to a a series win. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. and the game will air on the YES Network.
