Trade Rumors: Phillies are scouting Ivan Nova

Before Johnny Cueto was dealt to the Kansas City Royals, the Yankees and Reds discussed an Ivan Nova and Cueto swap before talks fizzled. However, it seems Nova is back in the picture, due to the sudden interest of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News is reporting the Philadelphia Phillies were sent to Texas on Monday to specifically scout Ivan Nova. The Phillies scouting Nova could have something to do with Cole Hamels, especially since the Yankees rebuffed trades that involved Luis Severino or Aaron Judge.

While Hamels would be an ideal fit for the Yankees due to the length of his contract, Feinsand believes David Price would be the better fit, mostly due to the monetary amount in Hamel’s contract.

Nova is under team control until 2017 and Nova would be a year removed from Tommy John Surgery next seasons. In six games with the Yankees, Nova is 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.298 WHIP.

Interesting to hear Nova's name in the mix.It would seem the asking price is coming down.Things that make you go hmmm

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, sorry guy but the Phillies were not scouting Nova, they were scouting the Ranger players. Sheesh, its not always about the Yankees. By this time tomorrow, Hamels will likely be a Ranger. Trust me, I am a huge Phillies phan and the Yankees have only two guys that would have interested them and Nova wasn't one of them…Judge and Severino would have but Yanks aren't interested in moving them, which I understand.

Feinsand: "Phillies were in TX Monday specifically to scout Nova. "

You REALLY think the Phillies only have one scout in their organization?

If I were the Phillies, I'd like NOVA plus 2 killer prospects for Hamels. As CALI said, the Yankees are not willing to part with those. Maybe Hamels for NOVA, Mitchell, Sanchez (semi-killer prospect), Lindgren (semi-killer prospect) and Beltran (sorry, had to unload him) might do it?…!

you watch Tanaka give up 3 runs in the 2nd and start thinking about what will be with him…is he ever going to be the star the Yankees believed him to be when they offered him that 9 figure contract…the Yankees need a starter, Tanaka's health, Nova's fatigue and concerns about wearing Pineda down are not going to go away…add CC to that mix and the Yankees should go out and secure one starter, Mike Leake could do, and a quality reliever to allow Warren to move into the rotation if need be without too much of a loss to the bullpen…i get that Cashman doesn't want to part with his top prospects but other teams are picking up decent players without unloading their best…it's not like our minor league system is too thin…
