Before Johnny Cueto was dealt to the Kansas City Royals, the Yankees and Reds discussed an Ivan Nova and Cueto swap before talks fizzled. However, it seems Nova is back in the picture, due to the sudden interest of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News is reporting the Philadelphia Phillies were sent to Texas on Monday to specifically scout Ivan Nova. The Phillies scouting Nova could have something to do with Cole Hamels, especially since the Yankees rebuffed trades that involved Luis Severino or Aaron Judge.
While Hamels would be an ideal fit for the Yankees due to the length of his contract, Feinsand believes David Price would be the better fit, mostly due to the monetary amount in Hamel’s contract.
Nova is under team control until 2017 and Nova would be a year removed from Tommy John Surgery next seasons. In six games with the Yankees, Nova is 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.298 WHIP.
