Trade Rumors: Yankees may look at Carter Capps if talks with Padres fall through

This morning, the Yankees revealed they had spent the entire night talking with the San Diego Padres about a potential deal for Craig Kimbrel. But if talks for Kimbrel fall through, the Yankees could look to another reliever for the bullpen.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweeted the Yankees could look at Miami Marlins reliever Carter Capps should the Kimbrel talks fall through. Capps is known as a reliever who can notch strikeouts when needed, and according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees are willing to move SS prospect Jorge Mateo in the right deal. If Kimbrel falls through would getting Carter Capps be considered the right deal in using Mateo?

Capps is 1-0 with a 1.21 ERA, 56 strikeouts and a 0.742 WHIP in 29.2 innings.

Capps and Betances in the same bullpen would be freakin' sick. If it is just a Mateo for Capps trade then go for it. Don't waste your time dancing about for better deal. I doubt it, though.

I like the idea of trading form a RH arm in control but also wonder about the Yank MGMT thinking and whether this solves anything. Last night's game is case in point. Ninth inning of a tied game, Goody (RH) walks one dude. Girardi calls in Miller (too early and overkill). Miller loses game. Girardi needs to show some faith and trust in Warren, Goody, Mitchell and other RHs. Miller, Wilson, and even Killer B are starting to show ware for tear. Also, while it is understandable for $ and rep reasons that CC is a starter this year, putting Warren in the rotation and putting Nova in the bullpen gives us a 7-inning starter. Right now, NOVA pitches 5, maybe 6. Warren is barely used.
