Michael Pineda won’t pitch in a game until September, but he is making progress in August. And what he did this afternoon brings him one step closer to returning to the Yankees rotation.

According to Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network, Pineda threw off a mound for the first time since going on the disabled list. He threw 25 pitches (all fastballs) and reported no problems with his arm. Pineda will throw his first full bullpen on Thursday.

While Pineda is one step closer to returning to the Yankees, Chase Headley is out of the lineup with sore legs. Joe Girardi described Headley as ‘banged-up’, which prompted him to not put Headley in the starting lineup. Headley is available to pinch-hit off the bench.

Rest who we can and still win. This weekend's a big one,Getting Big Mike back will boost the pitching staff.Hopefully we find the offense soon

  2. Robert says:

Why not put A- Rod at third and play Jones at DH instead of playing that lite weight Ryan. Besides you gave to get A-Rod for the National league future games and world series

    • mlblogsnewyorkyankees13 says:

Because A-Rod can't field anymore. Yankees tried for like three games early in the season, but he looked awful in the field. He's done well as a DH cause all he has to do is hit.

  3. hotdog says:

McCann is hitting .186 in his last 35 games…right now, he's an instant out with an occasional pop…Headley quietly hit .370 in July…hard to take a good bat out of the lineup but we need Headley healthy…maybe they should give McCann more rest…

    • hotdog says:

Ellsbury's .187 average since he returned from the DL has been difficult to understand but is this a slump or a medical condition that he's trying to play through…does he need to go back on the DL to address something…

  4. Balt Yank says:

Ellsbury has batted poorly and McCann can use rest. I'd like to see Gardner returned to the top slot til Ells finds his bat (and hits six or something in the meantime). Gardner Headley Arod TEX is a nice 1-2-3-4.

  5. Otto says:

The bottom line it seems the top of the line up has gone cold at the same time. Elsbury has not hit since coming off the DL. Gardner is slumping, ARod is Slumping, McCann is slumping. It is the dog days of August.
