Yankees end ‘Jorge Posada Day’ with a 6-2 win over Indians


Before the game, the Yankees honored Jorge Posada by placing a plaque in Monument Park and retiring his number. After the ceremony, Luis Severino pitched a great game against the Indians, earning his first Major League victory in a 6-2 win at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

The Yankees got on the board in the first inning on a two-run home run by Brett Gardner and a solo-shot by Brian McCann. In the second inning, Jacoby Ellsbury reached on a force out error which scored Stephen Drew, followed by a SAC Fly by Carlos Beltran. And in the eighth inning, the Yankees added one more run on a SAC Fly by John Ryan Murphy.

Luis Severino gave up one run on three hits with six strikeouts. Adam Warren pitched a scoreless inning, Dellin Betances gave up a run on two hits in his inning of work and Andrew Miller pitched a scoreless ninth while protecting a four-run lead.

What’s Next?

CC Sabathia will face his former team in the Indians as the Yankees attempt to even the series. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. and the game will air on the YES Network.
