It seems for the rest of the way, the Yankees are going with a five-man rotation. But because they’re going with a five-man rotation, one pitcher has been bumped from his starting position and will make his trek to the bullpen.

The Yankees announced Ivan Nova has been taken out of the rotation and has been placed in the Yankees bullpen. The team also announced their rotation for the weekend series against the New York Mets, and the Mets have also announced who will start against the Yankees.

Friday: Masahiro Tanaka vs. Steven Matz
Saturday: Michael Pineda vs. Noah Syndergaard
Sunday: CC Sabathia vs. Matt Harvey.

Nova will provide the Yankees with an extra arm out of the pen and with Adam Warren in the rotation, the pen needed a consistent arm.

Joe Girardi has indicated that with the current rotation, Tanaka is slated to start a potential Game 1 of the American League Division Series.

Hmm interesting. I guess the curious word from the article is "consistent" ; i just dont know how consistent nova's arm will play out of the bullpen. If there's anything consistent about nova, it's his inconsistency. Who knows? But i applaud girardi for shaking things up. Let's all think happy thoughts and picture a phil hughes type scenario from 2009 i suppose.

Who knows, maybe Nova finds a home in the bullpen, I just think he's too unreliable to have pitch in tight situations…i don't know how it works but I would think that a bullpen coach might know when a reliever has his "A" stuff…as Jimmy just mentioned, it's interesting and a little shaking up might work…now if Girardi could just shakeup the lineup a little more…

He can't be more inconsistent than the rest of the bullpen. This was overdue. Nova is not a five inning pitcher, but 6+ even if streaky, and I think he's a little fatigued.

  4. I always thought that Nova was a little Andy Pettitte-like in that he can get out of tough situations. Maybe the bullpen will be good for him.

    Good move.
