Branden Pinder outrighted to Triple-A Scranton

On November 8th, the Yankees designated Branden Pinder for assignment to make some room on the 40-man roster.

10 days later, Pinder is still in the Yankees organization since he wasn’t claimed on waivers.

It was announced Pinder was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday afternoon. Pinder could still make the 40-man roster in Spring Training, but for the time being the Yankees are setting their roster for the Rule 5 Draft coming up.

Pinder pitched six innings between the minors and majors in 2016 before he was shelved with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. He had a 3.45 ERA in 28.2 innings with the Yankees from 2015 and 2016.

This is great news. Yankee fans should be excited any time they hear a player was successfully outrighted. There's a reasonable chance Pinder gets himself in line for a 40-man roster spot at the end of 2017 and even if not that the Yankees can make a competitive offer for him in minor league free agency.

I am a little surprised to not see a couple other names on the list. We'll either hear they got picked up later on or that the Yankees aren't really adding as many names as they could to their 40-man. Regardless, It's a safe bet the Yankees are going to lose more talent to the Rule-5 draft in a couple weeks than any other team.

I don't think Yankees will lose a whopping number of prospects to Rule 5. Yankees have too many similar talents available and not all of them edge other teams' available talent. Maybe no more than 2 going to another teams to stay in MLB.

Yankees finally dumped Ackley but there is no word on Eovaldi. 2 spots are open. Yankees have no indication of protecting Mateo, Acevado and Enns as of now. Interesting.

    • tom says:

scratch that. Mateo and Andujar are added to the reserve roster.

Dietrich Enns, Brady Lail, Domingo Acevedo, Ronald Herrera, Tyler Webb and Giovanny Gallegos could be poached off. Umm.

Thats great news and really bad news.

I expect Gallegos will be drafted for sure.

I rhink there are teams that will certainly grab one or more.

What about Jake Cave? He will most likely be a free agent because this will be the 2nd time left unprotected.

And Nate Eovaldi will most likely be non tendered creating one more opening who will jump into that spot?

    • tom says:

I was told. Eovaldi is being DFAed. Ronald Herrera is added to the reserve roster.

There are a dozen of prospects left unprotected more than twice annually. Cave would become FA once he was drafted again and then cleared the MLB waiver. Nobody will draft him anyway. It is not worth losing a full fee to see if he can stick on active roster.

45 minutes to deadline, I have not heard any official on those moves but I am sure they will become official after 745 tonight. lol.
