Even though the Yankees are going through a youth movement, there’s still room for veterans on the team. And you know it’s no secret the Yankees are interested in uniting with Carlos Beltran.
However, if the Yankees are hoping for a reunion with Beltran, it’s not going to be that easy.
According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, the Yankees aren’t the only ones after Beltran. The Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros and the Toronto Blue Jays are the other three teams vying for the DH’s services.
While the Yankees are interested in a reunion with Beltran, they have to consider that if they acquire Beltran, it blocks anyone else on the roster that could use the DH spot. Perhaps it blocks Gary Sanchez when he needs a day off behind the plate. Or it blocks off Chase Headley, Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury and so forth.
Also placing Beltran in right field isn’t an option since Beltran can’t play right field anymore. The Yankees are planning on placing Aaron Judge at the position, should he win the job in Spring Training.
The Yankees are also looking at Rich Hill for the starting rotation and are interested in Edwin Encarnacion as a potential DH bat. However, the Yankees aren’t going to make any deals until the CBA is in effect.
The current CBA expires tonight at midnight.
