Winter Meetings Rumors: Yankees pursuing Luis Valbuena 6

Even though the Yankees added Matt Holliday to the lineup, they’re not exactly done in adding an additional bat.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees are one of several teams in “ongoing dialogue” with Luis Valbuena.

However, the Yankees are wary because the contract price for Valbuena was considered “too high”.

Many are saying Valbuena is looking to be an everyday player, even if he has to play multiple positions. However, the Yankees might not be able to fulfill Valbuena’s request unless they trade Chase Headley. The Yankees have been unsuccessful in trading Headley this offseason.

Valbuena was heading towards his best season with the Houston Astros, hitting 13 home runs. He ultimately suffered a hamstring injury in late July and had to undergo surgery which cut his season short.

have to wait until a contract set in stone. I think he could open for RF competition if signed. That is big IF for him because you know how Girardi is. He could be stuck as buried in frozen ground if Girardi's original players have played "well".

For roster's flexibility, I am going to pass on him.

This move would make more sense before the Holiday signing. Really good glove, can play both corners well and can play a little OF ( better than Holiday at this point). LH power but low average. But taking up another roster spot right now? Not sure I would but obviously you never know with them

I just wonder if they plan on holding onto Headley as a backup at 1st base if Bird struggles IF they sign Valbuena? Truthfully, I’d go for it unless we have a better internal candidate…shake things up…
