The first Spring Training game is in the books, and it’s safe to say the Yankees started the Grapefruit League in style. After clobbering three home runs and three triples, the Yankees came away from their home opener with a 9-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.
The Yankees got on the board in the top of the first on a solo-shot by Didi Gregorius. In the fifth, Aaron Judge hit a solo home run. In the sixth, Miguel Andujar hit a two-run triple. In the seventh, Gleyber Torres hit a SAC Fly and Kyle Higashioka homered. And in the eighth, Clint Frazier hit a two-run triple followed by a RBI single by Rob Refsnyder.
Bryan Mitchell pitched two scoreless innings in his Grapefruit League debut. Tyler Clippard pitched a scoreless inning, Tommy Layne pitched a scoreless inning, Luis Cessa pitched two scoreless innings, Jordan Montgomery gave up two unearned runs and Giovanny Gallegos gave up two runs in an inning of work.
