Yankees option INF Jorge Mateo to minor-league camp

Prior to Friday’s game between the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers, the Yankees made another cut from Major League camp.

The Yankees announced they have reassigned INF Jorge Mateo to minor league camp.The Yankees also optioned Mateo to Single-A Tampa.

With Mateo’s cut from Major League camp, the number of players at camp stands at 46. This includes the injured Tyler Austin and the five players participating in the World Baseball Classic.

    He can’t be happy about another trip to Tampa…i just don’t know what’s happened to Mateo…i think he’s got great potential but he appears derailed for now…

      Hopefully they are just trying to build his confidence back up. Apparently loaded with talent and needs a little more maturity. And maybe while he's down there, he works on playing center field. He gets his shit together and comes back stronger than ever. One thing the Yankees are is patience, at least with the minor leagues. It seemed like Sanchez was down there forever.

    i think Tampa is good because he'll put up better numbers before we trade him

    I don't understand either, did he not split time between Trenton and Scranton? Put him in Triple A or at least Double A. Nothing to prove or further development by performing T Single A for more than 3 years.
