Didi Gregorius has a strong debut in rehab game 5

While the New York Yankees struggled in an interleague matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night, Didi Gregorius was in Tampa, playing in his first rehab game.

Not only did Gregorius play in his first rehab game, he also excelled.

Gregorius went 2-fo-3 in his first minor league game against Class-A Lakeland, which included two singles. Gregorius also played shortstop for six innings.

The Yankees anticipate to have Gregorius back by early May after completing about 7 to 8 rehab games over the next 10 days.

Gregorius was placed on the disabled list prior to Opening Day after he returned from the World Baseball Classic with a right shoulder injury. For the time being, the team went with Pete Kozma and Ronald Torreyes at shortstop.

Love Didi, can't wait for his return. As part of Yankees, contenders or pretenders. Getting Didi and Gary back will lengthen the lineup. BG, Bird, and Holliday will hit better. I have them as playoff contenders, not WS contenders yet

Starting pitching, Tanaka is back and Severino looks for real. JM is looking better and better. We still have Green and Cessa at AAA……..Oh yea!!!!! Castro!!!!! Bomb!!!! 3-3!! Sorry, freakin' awesome

Bullpen, sorry for doing this in sections but the site reboots . Bullpen is deeper but not as top heavy. Deeper should help during the long season if most of the arms stay healthy. I said before, I think Toronto is over rated, The O's will probably fade, I don't think the Rays have enough total talent to stay in. So, that leaves New York and Boston for division and AL West for possible WC competition. Go Yankees!!!!!!

Lots of starters pitching going very well to great at AA & AAA is a great sign for a sustained run this year, our minor league hitters are not going to well so far though. But our bench should be very strong when Didi & Sanchez return. If Carter can settle into the role of scary bat of the bench it would be that much better.
