While the New York Yankees struggled in an interleague matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night, Didi Gregorius was in Tampa, playing in his first rehab game.
Not only did Gregorius play in his first rehab game, he also excelled.
Gregorius went 2-fo-3 in his first minor league game against Class-A Lakeland, which included two singles. Gregorius also played shortstop for six innings.
The Yankees anticipate to have Gregorius back by early May after completing about 7 to 8 rehab games over the next 10 days.
Gregorius was placed on the disabled list prior to Opening Day after he returned from the World Baseball Classic with a right shoulder injury. For the time being, the team went with Pete Kozma and Ronald Torreyes at shortstop.
