Didi Gregorius to do rehab assignment on Friday

The Yankees have been without Didi Gregorius since the beginning of the season. However, Gregorius could return sooner to the Yankees than we expected.

The Yankees announced prior to Tuesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox that Gregorius is close to returning to the team. Manager Joe Girardi said Gregorius will do a rehab assignment with High-A Tampa on Friday.

Gregorius suffered a right shoulder strain after turning a double play during the World Baseball Classic. He missed the Team Netherlands semifinals and was placed on the 15-day disabled list prior to the Yankees beginning their 2017 season.

Since then Ronald Torreyes and Pete Kozma have been manning shortstop.
