Jordan Montgomery wins fifth starter job 6

The mysterious fifth starter has finally been revealed.

After the Yankees 8-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, the team announced they were pushing back Luis Severino from Wednesday to Thursday to start the youngster Jordan Montgomery. However, it wasn’t just a spot start to give Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia more time between starts.

Following Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees officially announced Montgomery had officially won the fifth starter job, meaning the competition is officially over. As a corresponding move, the Yankees have sent Chasen Shreve to Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre.

However, the Yankees still need to make a move on the 40-man roster.

Chad Green, who was the loser of the fifth starter competition, has been promoted from Double-a Trenton to Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre.

Cool outcome! I guess the Yankees are giving Tanaka extra rest. Go figure, should have been done already.

YYYYesssssssss!!!! I thought he pitched his way in and I can't wait to see how he does. The pressure didn't seem to show through so my guess would be he does well. 'Bout time

Very happy that Monty is getting the chance. His upside is higher than Green's.

Hope they keep him in the rotation to let him develop the right way. This will be good for him since he probably will not get much run support. This will teach him to keep his team in the game and not let the lack of runs bother him too much.
