Michael Pineda dazzles in 8-1 win over Rays 4

After the Yankees defeated the Orioles at Camden Yards on Sunday, the Bronx Bombers returned home and played in front of their home crowd. With a stellar start by Michael Pineda, the Yankees were able to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-1 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

The Yankees scored in the bottom of the second on a RBI double by Jacoby Ellsbury. In the fourth, Aaron Judge hit a home run, in the seventh Chase Headley hit a home run, and in the eighth the Yankees put up a four spot on a Matt Holliday RBI double, a Chris Carter RBI triple, a home run by Starlin Castro and a force out by Ronald Torreyes.

Pineda went 7.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits while striking out 11. Tyler Clippard retired a batter and Chasen Shreve pitched a scoreless inning.

What’s Next?

— The Yankees are off on Tuesday, but the Yankees will return on Wednesday afternoon for the second game of this three game set. Making his Major League debut is Jordan Montgomery, who officially won the fifth starter job. Countering will be Blake Snell. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. and the game will air on the YES Network.

      He's in his walk year, if we're not doing well come late June and he is, he will probably get moved. Otherwise, we'll keep him of course.

        Disagree Jim! If he gets head straight the Yanks won't let him go. They can't afford to lose Tanaka, C.C and Pinada at the same time.
        But been wrong before!

    He was commanding both his fastball and his slider. But most importantly, he was effective with his changeup and he threw it often enough that batters had to pay attention to it.
