Yankees fall to Pirates 2-1

After a thrilling win on Saturday afternoon, the team returned on Sunday with hopes of taking the series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Unfortunately, the Yankees were bested by their former starter Ivan Nova in a 2-1 loss at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The lone run came on a home run by Jacoby Ellsbury in the seventh inning.

Montgomery went six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out five. Bryan Mitchell pitched two scoreless innings.

What’s Next?

— The Yankees are off on Monday but they return to baseball action on Tuesday as they play against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Luis Severino will start for the Yankees and Rick Porcello will start for the Red Sox. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. and the game will air on the YES Network.

    Battling through when you have nothing really going, got to give the young man credit. Have to give Nova some credit too. He pitched a good game. Red Sox up next, can't wait for that series. Severino,Tanaka and CC up I believe. Should be a good one

    Unfortunately, the weather will not cooperate. Heavy rain forecast in Boston for Tuesday and Wednesday. Yanks may not play again till Thursday.

    could help with sanchez and didi still out. baseball games don't rain out like they used to though-I'll be surprised if more than one rains out
