Yankees fall to Pirates 6-3

LOSS: CC Sabathia (2-1, 2.70 ERA)

After a relaxing off-day on Thursday, the Yankees began a three game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Unfortunately for CC Sabathia, once the Pirates got on the board, they never looked back, resulting in a 6-3 loss at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Yankees scored in the third on a double by Chase Headley, and in the fifth two runs scored via an error.

Sabathia went five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out three. Adam Warren gave up two runs (none earned) in 1.2 innings, Tommy Layne failed to record an out, Jonathan Holder retired a batter and Tyler Clippard pitched a scoreless inning.

What’s Next?

— The Yankees attempt to split the series at one game apiece by sending Michael Pineda to the mound. Jameson Taillon will start for the Pirates. First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. and the game will air on WPIX 11.

    Unfortunately at this point, CC will have those type of games. Off speed pitchers have to be spot on or they become very hitable. Four runs isn't too terrible. The Castro error was big, making it 6-3 instead of 4-3. But today's another game and all in all they're playing good ,can't wait

    Agree with Terry. I don't understand why Girardi continues to bat Gardner in the lead off position. The guy is hitting if you could call it that below 200.
