Gardner lifts Yankees to 3-2 win over Cubs

Yankees @ Cubs
FINAL: Yankees 3, Cubs 2
WIN: Jonathan Holder (1-0, 2.70 ERA)
LOSS: Hector Rondon (0-1, 3.65 ERA)

For most of the game, the Yankees couldn’t get anything going against Kyle Hendricks and the Chicago Cubs bullpen. And with two outs in the ninth, the Yankees were about to take their first loss against the World Series Champions. However, Brett Gardner saved the Yankees from a disastrous loss with a clutch home run, and eventually led the Yankees to a 3-2 win at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.

All three runs came off the bat of Gardner in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Michael Pineda went six innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out six. Chasen Shreve pitched a scoreless inning, Holder pitched a scoreless inning and Aroldis Chapman pitched a scoreless ninth.

What’s Next?

— The Yankees will play baseball under the bright lights of Wrigley as Jordan Montgomery takes the mound for the Yankees. Brett Anderson will start for the Cubs. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. and the game will air on FOX.

great win-they had some bad luck early, then they couldn't get anything going. Huge home run by Gardy and nice job by Chapman after Headley buthchered a ball-his fielding is becoming a concern
