Yankees option Chad Green to Triple-A Scranton 8

Prior to the Cincinnati Reds series, the Yankees called up Chad Green to provide a fresh arm in their tired bullpen.

On Tuesday, Green pitched a scoreless eighth inning against the Reds in a 5-3 loss. So how was Green rewarded for his effectiveness?

He was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Yankees haven’t made a corresponding move for Green as of yet, but I figure the move for Green was strictly so he could get more work on a consistent basis.

The Yankees have an upcoming four game series against the Houston Astros, and the Yankees should now have some arms in the bullpen after resting Adam WarrenChasen Shreve and Jonathan Holder. Until then, we sit and wait until we figure out who will be the player making a trip to the Bronx in exchange for Green.

I think you're right. The Yankees need to keep both Cessa and Green stretched out just in case.

Heller is only one that makes sense.

Today is 3rd day rest for Cessa so he and Mitchell will be available at the same time tomorrow. Cross him off.

Gallegos has yet to pitch back to back games and he was in the game yesterday. Cross him off.

Refsnyder would be DFAed if Frieri was the one today. Possibly if Choi or Austin is in for Layne tomorrow but for now Cross him off.

That's it so far I guess as long as there is no trade in the hand.

Unless Yankees are ready for double move like Austin and Judge last summer, of course.

Opting Green and cutting Layne would bring Yankees Frieri and Webb, Smith, Gurka or Mantiply, whoever, to Yankees.

Frieri, Webb, Smith, Gurka or Mantiply among with Heller going to Yankees if double move is in motion.

I like Green but it makes sense to develop some starters in Triple A as for sure we shall have 2 opening spots next year and who knows how everyone but Tanaka will fair right now…..?

Heller is pitching now for Scranton so Cross him off. That leave Frieri. Refsnyder is playing 2B right now so after the game is concluded Yankees could dfa him. umm!

Ah.. Yankees are off today. On Wednesday? Interesting. The picture becomes crystal clear now as it is Mitchell who will be reunited with Yankees tomorrow.

I would guess that the Yankees would call up Mason Williams. The Yankees usually carry 12 pitchers and 13 position players, but replacing Refsnyder with Green for the extra arm, that changed it to 13 pitchers and 12 position players. Williams hasn't been great, but that's the value of a spot on the 40-man roster. Also, the Yankees are limited in whom they can bring up because a player has to stay in the minors at least 10 days after being sent down, unless there is a DL move.
