Prior to the Cincinnati Reds series, the Yankees called up Chad Green to provide a fresh arm in their tired bullpen.
On Tuesday, Green pitched a scoreless eighth inning against the Reds in a 5-3 loss. So how was Green rewarded for his effectiveness?
He was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The Yankees haven’t made a corresponding move for Green as of yet, but I figure the move for Green was strictly so he could get more work on a consistent basis.
The Yankees have an upcoming four game series against the Houston Astros, and the Yankees should now have some arms in the bullpen after resting Adam Warren, Chasen Shreve and Jonathan Holder. Until then, we sit and wait until we figure out who will be the player making a trip to the Bronx in exchange for Green.
